Threshold Series 2
Modified Drawings 2004 / 2016

Threshold 56 and above are modified drawings from an interior design project
in 2004 at Brighton University, investigating alternative methods of drawing
architectual space. Originally A1, each drawing now varies in size, although
the central square remains constant at 6cm sq after cutting and reassembling.

A continuation from series 1, these modified drawings still hold the door motif
intact, but there are clear structural changes. With the sober negotiation of
'threshold' in the latter stages of the first series (where the issue of containment
was important), here a more vunerable and emotional stance is evident; confronting
the personal issues relating to these drawings. The metaphor of the door as a
psychological barrier or entrance, is in part disassembled, exposing the act of
stepping through the picture plane : crossing the threshold.

This series is currently ongoing and are being used as reference for a group of
paintings which complete the Threshold cycle.
